Privacy Statement

The Insurance Brokers Association of British Columbia (IBABC), a trade association incorporated under the Society Act of B.C., provides member services and education and examinations for pre-licensing, licensing courses and continuing education for general insurance brokers in B.C.

IBABC collects information about member brokerages and about licensees who enroll in IBABC education offerings. IBABC only collects personal information for the purposes identified, does so only with consent, and within the scope of a legal and ethical framework. IBABC employs appropriate security measures in the collection, use, storage and disposal of information.

What information does IBABC collect and how is it used?

Brokerages – IBABC collects information about brokerages that apply for membership in order to determine membership eligibility and to provide services to member brokerages, such as providing notifications and bulletins. General information about member brokerages is made available to the public under the Broker Finder function on IBABC's websites. Member brokerages have access to the Job Board where they may post their information at their own discretion. IBABC also collects general information on businesses and individuals registering for or participating in events organized by IBABC for the purposes of providing information and materials for that event and notification of similar future events.  IBABC does not sell or share membership lists with any third party except industry regulators as required by law.

Individuals – IBABC requires personal information for the effective enrollment of students in education courses, seminars and exams. IBABC requests only the information necessary, and that information is not shared with any third parties except with the student’s express consent. Students' course completion or marks are provided directly to them and are not shared with any third party, except with written consent. Click here for consent form.

IBABC also collects information about individuals who volunteer on IBABC committees, task forces and working groups, or to provide services to them.  Individuals may set their communication preferences to specify the types of communications they wish to receive from IBABC, or they may choose not to receive any.

Website – As with many websites, IBABC's website (www.ibabc.org) uses "cookies", which are very small files that some Internet sites send to your browser. These files are stored on the hard drive of your computer and can be used to identify you whenever you access a web site for the purposes of remembering your preferences and login credential. If you have concerns about this, you can change the setting on your web browser to not accept cookies or to display warning messages when cookies are about to be used.

IBABC’s website uses Google Analytics to collect data related to the device/browser, IP address and on-site activities and report statistics about user interactions on the website. The website also uses standard web server log files to track page visits.

The IBABC sites contain links to other sites. We provide these links solely for your information and convenience. We are not responsible for the content and privacy practices employed by other sites.

Ecommerce – IBABC collects payment details including credit card information as part of a transaction to register for events, webinars and licensing courses, and to purchase textbooks. The only credit card information saved is a mask of the number for display on receipts.
